I’ve heard hundreds of times and more: “Create your website in three (seven or ten) easy steps!” same as: “Create your blog in just a few clicks – the easy way!”
I believe, you did too.
Whenever someone tells you something like that, trust me, they are misguiding you.
Yeah, maybe you can create a site/blog way quicker and easier on some Blogger, WordPress, Wixy-Mixy or so free to use blogging platform, with some better or worse, but surely overused templates, if you need it for a short run.
But, if you want to build your very own, self-hosted blog or website that would stay up running for many years to come, you have to think of many things in advance and do it properly, and that takes time.
Therefore, I’m saying – there is no way to create a website in just a few easy steps or clicks! You have to allocate some time for that and put in some efforts and dedication, entirely leaving aside some magic wand and overnight success expectations, especially if you are not so techy blond as I am. ๐
OK – enough of playing smart!
Let me tell you how my blogging journey (trying to do it proper way) went on after my “first-day success.” ๐
2nd Day of My Blogging Journey
That second day was yesterday, in fact, and in short, I lost almost the whole day just trying to personalize, tweak, adjust and fine tune the theme I picked.
And, you know what? – I didn’t succeed!
As first, the day before, I managed to find Free WordPress Themeย that I somewhat liked the most and thought would work fine with what I’m planning to do with my site.
Even better, on the theme site creators were saying how they are giving it away for free with Premium Features included for a short time. So, I grab it!
But, it turned out, although some premium plugins and features are included, they also have some kind of 2nd Premium Features that are not listed, among which are already prepared different website designs.
I was a bit disappointed as one of those designs was the one I wanted.
Putting aside my disappointment, I decided to give it a go with available free demo design.
So, I downloaded the theme ZIP file to my PC and uploaded it to my WordPress site.
Before theme installation/activation I had the option to choose between installing the demo by importing all the settings and content or just the settings. After a little thinking, I decided to install only the settings without content.
I pressed the magic button!
Installation and activation have been completed almost in a nutshell. BUT…
OMG!!! ๐ฎ
What happen???
Although I chose to install only the settings, it went through with all the prewritten content too. Oversudden I had the whole site populated with the whole bunch of posts (which I didn’t create), photos, comments, links, main menu with a lot of tabs, almost each with some additional drop-down menu, their logo with their page title, etc.
I was furious! – Wanted to punch my screen!
Didn’t do it!
Instead, I did the wisest thing I could do at that moment. Walked away from my PC and made myself a cup of coffee to calm down and think it through what I’m going to do now.
After some while when I managed to cool down I was thinking about following three options:
- To deinstall the whole theme
- To delete all the pages and posts at once
- To hide it (one by one) from public view and build around it than renewed publish it publicly again
My final decision (for now) was the third option, although it would be the hell of a job.
BTW – I still didn’t change the logo nor even the title of the page. That’s why is there the 3rd Day of My Blogging Journey – today! ๐
Wish me luck!
As well, if you have any suggestion how could I do it better or work around it, please feel welcome.
Until next time, enjoy my, with the demo prewritten content, populated site! ๐ ๐
